Indianapolis Man Charged with the December 10, 2009 Armed Robbery

of the United Package Liquor Store Located in Fishers

On December 10, 2009 at approximately 12:10 p.m. Dispatch received a 911 call from an employee of the United Package Store located at 9526 E 126th Street in Fishers. The employee reported at approximately 12:00 p.m. a black male entered the store. The black male approached the counter, displayed a small black handgun, and demanded money from the cash register. The employee complied and removed money from the cash register. The suspect also demanded a carton of cigarettes. The suspect fled, the store, on foot in an unknown direction.

Fishers Police Detective Robert Baker worked closely with both IMPD and Hamilton County Sheriff Detective Divisions after being assigned the case. The sharing of information between the agencies led to the issuance of an arrest warrant against 27 year old Justin C. Smith of Indianapolis in connection with the December robbery in Fishers.

On the morning of January 15th 2010, Detective Baker received information that IMPD had arrested Justin Smith the previous night for similar charges and an interview conducted by an IMPD detective yielded reason to believe Smith had committed the Fishers robbery also. A subsequent investigation by Detective Baker established the probable cause necessary to obtain an arrest warrant for Smith.

The warrant was obtained and served later that day while Smith was still in the custody of IMPD. He will be transferred to the Hamilton County Jail after answering to similar charges against him in their jurisdiction.

The Fishers Police Department once again acknowledges and commends the collaborative work of all the officers involved in this case. The strong working relationship enjoyed by all Law Enforcement Officers, regardless of agency affiliation, sends a clear message that the pursuit of justice is not limited by jurisdictional boundaries.
