Safety Tips
1.
Get new locks or have tumblers reset when moving into a previously
occupied dwelling.
2.
Don’t hide a key outside the door, under mats, under flowerpots, and
so forth.
3.
Have good, safe locks on all doors and windows. Use deadbolts on all
exterior doors.
4.
Install an alarm system that can detect entry and notify police.
5.
Close your garage door whether you are home or away. Open doors allow
burglars to see your valuables and enter your home.
6.
Lock car doors if you park your car outside.
7.
Leave outside lights on at night when you are home or away.
8.
Be alert for unusual or suspicious activity. Call the police if you
do not recognize a person or car, and you observe suspicious activity.
9.
Stop newspaper delivery or have a neighbor pick them up daily.
10.
Use clock timers on interior lights if you are going to be away.
11.
Get to know your neighbors. Communication between neighbors is key!
12.
Watch your neighbor’s home while they are away. Request that they do
the same for you when you are out of town.
13.
Notify the Fishers Police Department when you are going to be away
for an extended period of time. Give them information about who may stop by
your home, who has keys, lights that will be left on, or any vehicle parked
on the property.
14.
Don’t take chances! If you see or hear something suspicious, call the
police.
15.
Know your block captain’s name and contact information.
16.
Contact the police first if you are a crime victim.

Condo Winterization Process
Procedure every fall
before the onset of freezing temperatures:
1.
Turn the water off at the shut-off location.
2.
Turn the water on at the rear outside hose bib. This will drain the
water out of the lines. Leave the hose bib open. Be sure to disconnect any
water hoses at this time.
Procedure every spring after the last frost:
1.
Turn the water on at the shut-off location.
2.
The water supply will now flow to the hose bib. Immediately check
that the outside rear hose bib is shut off.
Typical Shut-off Location:
Alston: Upstairs
closet where the hot water heater is located.
Broad: Upstairs bath
cabinet under the sink.
Cooper: No draining
required.
Drayton: Upstairs
closet where the furnace and hot water heater are located.
Additionally, as
extreme weather conditions arise, you can do the following to help reduce
the chance of having problems:
1.
To prevent water lines from freezing on extremely cold or windy days,
drip each of your faucets (hot and cold sides in the kitchen, bath, and
tub). Open the cabinets beneath your sinks to allow warm air to circulate
around the pipes.
2.
Be sure your outside spigots do not have a hose attached to them and
that they are drained.
3.
Do not allow ice and snow to build up around your back door. Ice may
melt as the weather warms, and you may experience seepage in and around the
door.
Thanks for taking
necessary precautions to eliminate potential concerns!
