Fishers posts commuter
video on site
The Town of Fishers posted a new video to its homepage highlighting the
popular Indygo Commuter Express route from 106th and Lantern in Fishers
to Downtown Indianapolis. The three minute video clip focuses on Fishers
resident, Ivonne Mendizabal, who rides the bus to her job in downtown
Indianapolis.
“It’s convenient, very practical, and excellent,” Mendizabal said. “It’s
cheaper in the long run with mileage and gas, and you get to rest and
not fight the traffic.”
Mendizabal starting riding the bus after a car accident left three
family members sharing two vehicles. Mendizabal initially rode the bus
as a way to get to and from work without a vehicle. What started out of
necessity became a routine for Mendizabal who continues to ride the bus
to her job at Eli Lilly.
The Town provides a 20 percent match for the service but is reimbursed
the entire amount if ridership exceeds 193 passengers a day. Since the
first route in October 2007, ridership has exceeded that amount and the
Town has incurred no expense.
“The bus system is available to anyone. It may be for those individuals
who don’t like driving in traffic, it may be for those days when it
snows, and then also for the people who would rather be sleeping,” said
Town Manager Gary Huff. “There’s something there for everyone. It’s a
very convenient service.”
The Town is highlighting the bus service to raise awareness among
residents of the service and to encourage them to ride. A trip downtown
and back costs $4.
