Tip a Fishers Fireman
for Charity 4/22
On Tuesday, April 22, diners at the Texas Roadhouse in Fishers may
notice a little extra “staffing” in the restaurant.
Fishers firefighters will once again help greet and serve patrons that
evening, and help share the mission of Hoosier Burn Camp: “A Place To Be
Just One of the Kids”. Diners can then choose to leave an extra “tip”
that will help cover the average $1000.00 it takes to send a child to
the camp for a week.
“The Fishers Fire Department has supported Hoosier Burn Camp from its
beginning, in a number of ways,” said Public Information Officer Ron
Lipps. “This is a fun event, but we try not to get in the way of the
REAL help too much.”
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Hoosier Burn Camp, which served
over 70 adolescent burn survivors last year and well over 150 children
in the past 10 years with a week of camp activities and renewed
friendships.
Camp activities include traditional things like fishing, canoeing,
archery, crafts, rock climbing and more. “The activities at camp are
fun, but also help build self confidence and self esteem, in an
environment where all of their peers have been through similar
experiences” said Mark Koopman, Executive Director of Hoosier Burn Camp.
“We have several more campers every year and have expanded our programs
throughout the year,, so we’re grateful for these kinds of fundraisers.
The Fishers Fire Department has been a tremendous partner in providing
monetary support and volunteer staff since the first year of camp.”
