Professional ballet returns to Greater
Indianapolis with the formation of Ballet Theatre of Indianapolis (BTI)!
Headed by Artistic Directors Oleg Gorboulev and Oybek Tashpulatov,
Ballet Theatre of Indianapolis was founded in order to provide the
Greater Indianapolis public with professional ballet productions.
Gorboulev explains the motivation for founding the company, “The
unfortunate demise of Ballet Internationale in ‘05 left a void in Indy’s
arts and cultural scene, which we felt needed to be filled. Our vision
is to develop a fresh mixed repertoire at BTI, respecting the classics
while presenting new-cutting edge choreography. BTI’s Premiere Gala
Performance will show the public what we hope to accomplish here.”
The Premiere Performance will be held at 7 p.m. on June 28th, at the
Zionsville Performing Arts Center, 1000 Mulberry Lane, 46077. The
one-night-only Gala features guest-stars from the nation's top
professional ballet companies including Pacific Northwest Ballet
(Seattle), Oregon Ballet Theatre, Orlando Ballet, Nashville Ballet,
Cincinnati Ballet, and free-lance artists from New York City, along with
select local up-and-coming talent.
One of four young local dancers invited to perform with BTI’s stellar
line-up is Fisher’s own Casy Wheeler, 17. Inviting her to perform in
BTI’s Gala was an easy decision for the artistic staff, who is well
familiar with her talent, as she worked with Director Oybek Tashpulatov,
in Central Indiana Dance Ensemble’s production of the “Nutcracker” this
past winter. "I am very excited and honored to be chosen to participate
in the Gala Performance of Ballet Theatre of Indianapolis. It is an
amazing opportunity to be able to dance with all these Professional
Ballet Dancers from all over the country. I was so overjoyed to work
along side very prestigious dancers such as Oleg Gorboulev and Mara
Vinson!"
Ms. Wheeler has been privately coached by Pacific Northwest Ballet
principal dancer Mara Vinson, who says that, “It’s been delightful
working with Casie. She’s had wonderful training with Suzann Delay at
Central Indiana Dance Ensemble, and has a potentially brilliant career
ahead of her. The most valuable thing to her right now is to be
surrounded by the type of high-quality dancers that BTI’s directors are
presenting in their premiere.”
To see this local rising star dancing alongside some of the nation’s
finest artists, be sure to attend Ballet Theatre of Indianapolis’s
Premiere Gala Performance at the Zionsville Performing Arts Center.
Tickets range from $25-$35 and can be purchased at the door an hour
before the show, or at a discounted price in advance by calling (317)
475-0021.
