Fishers homes struck by
lightning
Strong overnight thunderstorms on Monday 7/21, unleashed a barrage of
lightning strikes across Fishers between midnight and 2:00 am.
Ten weather and lightning related calls were received by the Fishers
Fire Department in that time period. Five resulted in fires, one with
significant damage, two with major damage.
A home in the 11400 block of Niagara Drive was the first reported fire.
Lightning struck the roof of the home, igniting a fire in the attic that
was contained to one part of the house. Rooms below the fire had water
and smoke damage.
Fire destroyed the roofs of two other homes and left heavy smoke and
water damage throughout. The first fire was in the 11300 block of
Redwing Court, the second in the 8300 block of Bighorn Court.
Two other fires, on Key Court and Weathered Edge Drive, were relatively
small and contained to the area where they started.
No injuries were reported to any occupants or firefighters.
The Fishers Fire Department was assisted by the Carmel, Noblesville,
McCordsville, Wayne Township and Lawrence Township Fire departments..
