Fishers residents asked
to be environmentally friendly
Fishers residents should visit the Stormwater Web Page on the
Engineering and Public Works Website at
www.fishers.in.us/epw
regarding other clean water information.
The Town of Fishers Department of Engineering and Public Works would
like to remind all residents to be aware of clean water issues during
the fall yard work season. Please remember to consider the following
items to limit pollution and impact to our local waterways:
Bag your leaves and other yard waste and DO NOT rake them into the
streets. This is a violation of the Clean Streets Ordinance (94.01).
Ideally you should compost your yard wastes or deliver them to a
composting or recycling facility such as the Hamilton County Household
Hazardous Waste (HHW) facility at 1717 E. Pleasant Street, Noblesville,
IN (776-4005). Please call to verify acceptable materials prior to
delivery.
Use fertilizer sparingly and use phosphorous free fertilizers when
possible. Several of the local stores now carry phosphorous free
fertilizers. Phosphorous in waterways is one of the major causes of
algae blooms in our local water bodies.
Don’t dump anything into the storm drain, creek, pond, or reservoir. It
is illegal to dump anything but clean water down a storm drain or into a
waterway. Even grass clippings or twigs are considered a pollutant to
the water because they use up oxygen in the waterways as they decompose.
Thank you for your concern for our environment.
Residents who have questions regarding the Town’s stormwater safe yard
practices should email
